Meet Scott Smith
As someone who has been a client as well as a clinician, I can appreciate and respect the courage it takes to seek help for our, emotional, relational, spiritual struggles in life. As a therapist, it is a privilege to walk alongside people for part of their life journey, helping to discover their own God-given uniqueness, and recover their ability to effectively manage their own lives in the midst of an increasingly uncertain world.
As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in the state of North Carolina and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of South Carolina, I have been working as a therapist since 2012, helping couples, individuals, and groups with relationship, addiction, and mental health problems, including anxiety and depression, grief and loss, dual diagnosis (co-occurring mental health and addictive disorders), personality disorders, and other problems in living.
Additionally, I’m a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) and a Certified Partner Trauma Therapist (CPTT) through the International Institute for Trauma & Addiction Professionals (IITAP). As a Certified Hope & Freedom Practitioner, I conduct three day intensives for couples seeking to rebuild their relationship following infidelity, as well as for individuals suffering from sex addiction or betrayal trauma.
Values
Honesty
Honesty is the foundation for effective therapy and personal growth. I seek to make my office be a place of safety where clients can practice complete honesty and be vulnerable with themselves and their therapist.
Loving Accountability
Empowerment involves building our strengths and understanding our capabilities, learning from our past, and taking ownership of our life, in spite of the woundedness from our past and the challenges yet to come. We find freedom in pursuing excellence rather than perfection, and are able to see our true value and worth as a person.
Empowerment
Part of being an ethical therapist is to bring what I call Loving Accountability to each session. The bond built between a therapist and there client will involve many difficult moments as clients change and grow. Loving Accountability is a willingness to share hard, honest truths with clients, while also holding them accountable by asking the tough questions to bring light to the dark places that need healing.
Ethical Care and Integrity
Upholding the highest standards of ethical care as required by legal and licensing authorities. I commit to, among other things, guarding my client’s confidentiality within legal limits, maintaining healthy personal and professional boundaries, and committing to continue my own education and growth as a therapist.
